Neroli oil is distilled from the white blossoms of the bitter orange tree, an evergreen native to Asia. The oil was not discovered till the 17th century. It was named after the Princess of Nerola, princess Anna Maria de la Tremoille, who used the oil to perfume her gloves, stationery, shawls, and bathwater. It then became popular with the people in Venise, where Neroil’s perfume industry flourished.
